Dr. Greg Heiberger, COO got his humble
beginnings in ed tech playing Reader Rabbit on his Apple
IIGS in grade school. Twenty years later, in 2007 his
groundbreaking research showed Facebook’s impact on
college student involvement, he led one of the highest cited
studies at SDSU in 2011 – a randomized controlled trial
(RCT) exploring the use of Twitter to expand the classroom
walls, and in 2021 he led SDSU in gaining notoriety as one
of the first Metaversities in the world. This edtech mindset
provided space for his visionary PhD student Karly
Ackermann to apply her expertise in undergraduate biology
education to build The VR Cell, a first of its kind, untethered,
3D, pedagogically grounded, visually accurate
representation of the mammalian cell. The VR Cell is a
rigorously researched educational intervention proven to
increase student learning in STEM (Ackermann et. al 2024). Greg’s role at STEMersive Labs is to serve as chief shepherd of operations and a marginally better notetaker than the AI that will replace him.
